I Avril work as a Solicitor (Lawyer) and my husband is an Architect. We came from humble beginnings so lots of humility and while we have been lucky professionally through hard work, we are even prouder to be parents. I am about to embark on a career break and I know for hosting Au Pairs how rewarding it is to have young people in our home and sharing our culture. The way I see it, what you put into the experience you get back which is so much. We also find the engagement rewarding for the young persona and our children. We live a 7 bedroom house, which is within walking distance to tennis courts, swimming pools, gyms and different clubs such as scouts, the no-name club and Foroige. Classes such as Yoga and Pilates are also within walking distance. Dancing classes such as Irish dancing, ballet are available as well as private art classes and piano. If you want to engage in team sports there is soccer, GAA, volleyball and so much more. We also have bicycles. There are two horseriding schools within driving distance. If the student is really struggling there are English tutors whom I can reach out to. There is lots of things to do, it’s impossible to list them all- we are just very lucky where we live and I adapt to each young person who comes, but equally help them try new things. We usually have an Au Pair to help with the children, if not, a live out childminder so that I can navigate the pick ups and drop offs. Cleaners come to our home every Friday, we tidy every day but having this means we have quality family time at the weekends. I love cooking and we are used to hosting in our home and getting to know and help those who come. As mentioned, I will be on a career break from August 2025 for a year so I will be quite hands on and available to support any young person who comes. The way I see it, coming to Ireland is not just about getting better at a language but growing as a person. Knock airport is 20 minutes from our home, Shannon Airport 1.5 hours and Dublin Airport is about 3 hours. Public transport such as buses and trains are a 2 minute walk away.
